What to Do in a Crisis

1

Reach Out Immediately

Call a crisis helpline, emergency services, or go to the nearest emergency room. Don't wait or try to handle it alone.

2

Tell Someone You Trust

Reach out to a family member, friend, or mental health professional. Isolation makes crises worse.

3

Remove Access to Means

If you're having thoughts of self-harm, remove access to anything that could be used to harm yourself.

4

Create a Safety Plan

Work with a mental health professional to create a plan for managing crisis situations in the future.

5

Follow Up with Professional Support

After a crisis, continue working with a therapist or counselor to address underlying issues and prevent future crises.
